Each summer for the past thirty-eight years Provo School District, in conjunction with Provo City Parks and Recreation, has sponsored an outdoor education (summer camp) program. Students just finishing fifth grade are invited to participate. They spend five days at a camp located in the South Fork of Provo Canyon and enjoy many fun activities such as hands on science experiences, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, and campfire programs. Big Springs provides a creative, recreational and educational opportunity for students in the outdoors.

We feel that Big Springs is a unique and rare experience that provides opportunities which many children may never get in any other way. We utilize trained leadership and the resources of our natural surroundings to contribute to each camper's mental, physical, and social growth.

Letter to Parents

Goals:
1. Learning to live outdoors and become acquainted with the outdoor environment.
2. Experiencing individual growth and development.
3. Learning to live and work together.
4. Practicing health and safety.
5. Developing new skills and interests, and perfecting old ones.
6. Developing values through appreciation and concern for others.
7. Enjoying a recreational experience.

Location:
Camp Big Springs is located up the South Fork of Provo Canyon on a beautiful and secluded spot owned by Provo City.

Staff:
The staff is made up primarily of professional educators from Provo City School District. There are four male teachers (including an EMT trained staff member), three female teachers, a director, assistant director, food truck driver, and custodian, as well as other auxiliary staff.

Meals:
Meals are provided by the Timpview High School lunch staff using menus that have proven to be well received by the students.

Facilities:
Our setting is quite rustic without many of the comforts of home, but we feel that this is a useful part of the learning experience offered.

Fee:
The fee is $65.00. This covers food, bus travel, craft supplies, T-shirt, and all other expenses for the week.
